At Pentecost they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:4
When the day of Pentecost, the fiftieth day after Easter, had come, ten days after the ascension of Jesus Christ, at nine o'clock in the morning, all the disciples, one hundred and twenty of them, both men and women, were assembled with one accord in an upper room of a house. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven like a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them cloven tongues like fire. And the Holy Spirit sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, other languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven, who had come to the feast. Now when this rumour was spread abroad, the multitude came together at this house, and were puzzled, because every man heard the disciples speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another: "Behold, aren't all these who speak Galileans? And how we hear every man in our own tongue in which we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians; - we hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God." And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another: "What does this mean?" Others, mocking, said: "These men are full of new wine."
This outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Jesus had been prophesied in the Old Testament, and repeatedly promised by Jesus, both before His suffering and death and after His resurrection. And it was attended by great and miraculous signs and wonders, so that everyone could see it. The Holy Spirit wanted to equip the first witnesses of Jesus with power from on high for their great calling of preaching the Gospel to all the world. And He always wants to glorify Christ through the Word of the Evangelists and Apostles in the hearts of those whom He brings to faith in Christ. He also wants to glorify Christ in your heart, O Christian!

PRAYER: - God, Holy Spirit, I beseech You, glorify Christ also in my heart, that I may firmly rely on Him and on His gracious Gospel in the struggle against sin, temptation, affliction, death, judgment, and eternal damnation, and finally obtain eternal salvation: who lives and reigns with the Father and with the Son, true God, world without end. Amen.
