86. Week of Quinquagesima Sunday - Monday
The servant is not greater than his lord
If you know these things, happy are you if you do them   John 13:17
On Thursday morning the disciples came to Jesus, saying:" Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover". And He said: "Go into the city to such and such a man and say to him, The Master says, "My time is at hand; and I will keep the Passover at Your house with my disciples."  The disciples did as Jesus had told them and prepared the Passover. Now when the evening came He sat down with the Twelve  and an argument arose among the disciples about which of them should be accounted the greatest. Jesus rose and laid aside His outer garment, took a towel and tied it around Himself. After that He poured water into a basin, began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel. Then He came to Simon Peter who said to Him: "Lord, are You going to wash my feet?" Jesus answered : "You don't now know what I'm doing, but later you will understand." "No!" Peter told Him: "You'll never wash my feet."  "If I don't wash you," Jesus answered him, " You have no share in Me." "Lord" Simon told Him: "Not only my feet, but also my hands and my head." Jesus said to him: "Anyone who has bathed needs only to have his feet washed. He is clean all over. You're clean but not all of you." For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said. "Not all of you are clean"  After He had washed their feet and put on His garment, He lay down again. "Do you know what I've done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you're right because I am that. Now if I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you too should wash one another's feet.  I've given you an example so that you will do as I did to you. Truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his Master; and if you're sent, you're no greater than He who sent you. If you know these things, happy are you if you do them."(Matt. 26:17-20; Luke 22:24; John 13:1-17.)
We Christians are clean through faith in Christ. He merely needs forgive us the sins which defile us on our journey through this life. And this He gladly does. And so we Christians must also be kind to one another, and willingly forgive one another, and serve one another in every way. If we know these things, happy are we if we do them.
PRAYER: - Lord Jesus, my Saviour, I thank You that by Your blood You have cleansed me of all my sins, and that You richly and daily forgive me all my sins. Grant me Your Holy Spirit that I may prove myself Your disciple, gladly forgiving my neighbour when he has offended me, and loving and serving him. Amen.
